Network Support Engineer
Primary Role
The Network Support Engineer (NSE) installs, configures, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and tunes network infrastructure (i.e., routers, switches, gateways, firewall systems, premise distribution, voice/video systems, and security systems). Provides technical leadership for network problem escalation and resolution. Performs system capacity planning to ensure appropriate growth and evolution of systems. Develops and coordinates plans for periodic penetration testing of all applications and network elements for adherence to regulations.
Working Relationships
- Directly report to Line Manager/supervisor and others if need;
- Work across in different teams in different locations if need;
- Work with clients and/or counterparts if have.
Professional Responsibilities
- Technology: Evaluates and tests networking technologies to help establish their potential use. Performs stand-alone and system testing of routers, switches, hubs, and optical equipment. Researches and evaluates network technologies, new products, literature, patents, and current practices to support business requirements and/or new industry technology.
- People: Provides support, guidance, and training regarding the capabilities and usage of voice/data network equipment or technology being evaluated or installed. Interacts with clients and internal engineering groups to create and/or review requirements, functional specifications, and detailed designs.
- Customer: Works closely with clients/vendors to resolve open issues, monitor schedules, and evaluate the level of technical support required and delivered by vendors. Provides technical expertise in network design for clients. Advises management of network vulnerabilities, and rectifies identified issues.
- Business: Provides technical material needed for documentation of new systems or applications. Works with other engineering and support personnel to document and implement installation, provisioning, troubleshooting, monitoring, performance analysis, reporting, and other operation flows. Develops and implements tests to evaluate various architecture designs, concepts, performance, and features of the design. Develops and oversees security software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation to ensure standard use of procedures.
- Financial: Influences investment decisions based on results of independent assessment of current and future network performance, stability, and network management issues. Prepares forecast numbers and models to predict traffic requirements and capital costs for system.
- Typical Outputs and Deliverables: Test Plans/Test Results, Network Installation Plans, Technical Documentation, Problem Reports
Professional Requirements
- At least 01 year of IT experience in deploying and maintenance of network and telecom infrastructure is a must;
- Good knowledge of networking devices: switches, routers, firewalls, traffic shapers, VPN
- Good knowledge of network protocols: TCP/IP, routing, IPSec, LAN/WAN, etc.
- Having good communication skills in English is required;
- Being a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills is needed;
Education/Training
- Bachelor's degree is a plus;
- College degree and/or Diploma are considered;
- Certificates in related areas of network, security are preferred.
