Don't Shoot the Futurologist - Discussion Summary
Don't Shoot the Futurologist … he’s doing his best. This CIO debate, moderated by Mark Chillingworth, UK editor-in-chief of CIO Magazine, looked to the future. In the debate futurologist Simon Wardley of CSC’s Leading Edge Forum (LEF) spoke about what the people whose job it is to predict what’s coming next can do, and how they should do it - and how CIOs can respond.
Simon’s most recent work for the LEF, on which he based his talk, is “Of Wonders and Disruption” - a paper that admits, right at the start, that “prognostication is often a very humbling business”. Simon challenged the CIOs present to discuss how to get past the “tyranny” of SWOT analysis, who should take responsibility for situational awareness, and how to overcome cultural inertia. What did the debate conclude?
