The New Approach to UK Public Sector
The current challenging economic environment has given rise to a need for government to reduce the cost of public services. In direct contention with a reduction in budgets citizens have ever rising expectations with regards to the standard of public services they receive and how they expect to consume such services. These growing expectations are driven an increasing online and digital world, enabling customers to access services at a time and place that is convenient for them. This new digital age is prolific in every other industry vertical and there is now a demand for the public sector to catch up.
These pressures are causing public sector organisations to radically rethink how they deliver their services, consequently giving rise to a series of organisational challenges, with implications for people, processes and technology.
At CSC we have considered the challenges faced by public sector organisations and using our extensive IT expertise, we have worked in partnership with the government to help them along their journey of digital transformation.
Despite the challenge being severe for most public sector organisations, it presents a great opportunity to apply new and innovative thinking to “reimagine” how public service delivery models can be transformed by technology, so that they become more cost efficient and service effective, ultimately meeting the growing digital demands of citizens.
CSC believes that technology can play a vital and enabling role in the successful transformation of public services, particularly in streamlining business processes to achieve a better quality of services at reduced cost. CSC has invested heavily in creating flexible and agile ‘next generation’ IT services across infrastructure, applications and big data analytics solution portfolios. CSC offers a highly collaborative approach to working with government to deliver better public services, which has technology-enabled transformation at its hearts. This is based upon CSC’s global experience of delivering transformation in both the public and private sectors.
CSC has developed a long-standing relationship with the UK Government, whereby we deliver many mission critical systems and services, all of which reflect CSC’s ability to fully exploit the potential technology to create value in public services. This is in contrast with the traditional approach of outsourcing, which demonstrates low levels of real transformation. In taking this approach CSC has demonstrated the ability of technology to radically transform public services, through the increased use of automation and digitisation, providing power to put citizens at the heart of public services.
