Through a series of acquisitions over the years, BMC has expanded its software portfolio to include software solutions for highly distributed systems. As a result, BMC now manages orders of various sizes and complexity.
"To remain competitive, we need to remove costs from our financial processes, starting with the basics. Teaming with CSC to upgrade our ERP approach was the first step," said Keith Morgenroth, Director of Financial applications at BMC Software.
BMC Software's Business Challenge
BMC Software's IT staff had succeeded in supporting a global user group, running disparate systems, and had done so while fulfilling existing business requirements effectively and efficiently. Yet BMC realized that an eventual upgrade to Oracle 11i could not be postponed indefinitely.
The Oracle 11i upgrade process is recognized within the industry as being difficult and complex. The organization conducted extensive research of the upgrade requirements. Their evaluation recommended bringing in outside experts to ensure a smooth transition and avoid costly mistakes and lengthy downtimes.
"We wanted consultants that were experienced with the Oracle 11i upgrade process. After evaluating several companies, it was clear that CSC had the greatest depth of technical experts, and they had the business processes and procedures expertise that the competition didn't offer," said Morgenroth.
Bottom-Line Results
BMC Software and CSC completed the actual Oracle 11i production upgrade with 25 percent less down time than originally planned, exactly on the scheduled date, and within budget. "The CSC team was a key component of the outstanding success of the upgrade," said John Hori, Manager of Global Financial Systems at BMC.
