CSC Smart Business February 2013 - UK Edition
Welcome to the February issue of Smart Business, CSC's UK newsletter. As usual we're bringing you the latest examples of how we've been solving issues faced by companies in every sector.
In this issue we consider why the cloud will play an increasingly critical role for organisations in 2013, as interconnection between cloud environments and machine to machine commerce continue to grow. We also look at how CSC has helped the Royal Mail Group to reduce costs, increase efficiencies and improve user satisfaction. Elsewhere we review how leading aerospace and defence company Cobham has transformed its operations and consider how organisations can attract the best young talent.
We always welcome feedback so please let us know if there's anything that's caught your interest in this issue. And if you're on Twitter do come and join us there too.

Cloud and proud
The cloud used to be seen as just a different means of hosting but CSC’s General Manager for Cloud Computing and Software Services, Siki Giunta, predicts this will change in the 2013. Interconnectivity between cloud environments and machine to machine commerce will show how indispensible the cloud is to new business models.

First class delivery
CSC has been working on a series of projects with Royal Mail Group to upgrade employees' devices and optimise server use. RMG estimates the improvements could bring down hardware costs by as much as a third.

High fliers
Working across several markets normally means a decline in demand in one can be offset by gains in another. The challenge, which Cobham has found should never be underestimated, is to seek out growth through flexible production systems. These are enabling the aerospace and defence leader to develop a much more flexible, responsive operating model.

Attracting Millennials
The brightest young talent are likely to have several job offers and getting your organisation to the top of that list can be tough. Flexible working, unlimited holidays, embracing social media and offering travel are all potential ideas to attract the right calibre of candidate. The reward? Better productivity and new potential routes to market.

Retained, repurposed
Retained IT is transitioning from a cost centre to business partner innovating internal and outsourced solutions to deliver corporate strategy. LEF research shows this will lead to four new models for delivering Enterprise IT.

Vitality is vital
Strategic plans to manage change and boost growth could be ineffective if HR executives and the board are not in a constant dialogue. Only by mapping out the future direction of an organisation can talent management efforts be focussed on identifying the required skills and ensuring they are in place.
