Smart Business October 2011 - UK Edition
Welcome to the October issue of Smart Business, CSC's UK newsletter.
This month we explore a variety of innovative solutions and ideas that are helping to solve issues faced by organisations in a range of sectors.
We take a look at how the innovative new PocketHealth app is delivering content from NHS Choices onto smartphones. Eco Orange, the pioneering new recycling scheme from mobile telecommunications operator Orange, is reviewed and the Leading Edge Forum's Paul Gustafson discusses the rise and rise of Big Data. Elsewhere CSC's Liz Benison looks at 10 things you wanted to know about cloud but were too embarrassed to ask and we also analyse why companies need to plan now to prosper in the Post-PC World.
As always, we welcome feedback so please let us know if there's anything that's caught your interest in this issue. And if you're on Twitter do come and join us there too.

Healthy APPtitude
CSC's new PocketHealth app, developed in collaboration with the NHS, combines the easy-to-understand medical content published through the NHS Choices web site with a ‘find your nearest’ service and a one-touch feature to call the NHS Direct phone line or the emergency services.

Greener Orange
Eco Orange is the pioneering new recycling scheme from mobile telecommunications operator Orange which goes beyond delivering environmental gains alone. Orange worked with CSC to devise and execute a strategy that embodies environmental protection, social equity and economic efficiency aspects – as well as benefit customers and the Orange brand.

Cloud 101
Liz Benison, VP and COO of CSC’s UK business, outlines 10 basic aspects of cloud for anyone yet to explore it in detail. From the fundamental characteristics of the technology through to the potential risks and how to compare service providers, Benison explores the 10 things you really need to know.

Data Developments
Data is becoming the new raw material of business, argues Paul Gustafson, director of Technology Programmes at CSC's members-only strategic global research and advisory programme the Leading Edge Forum. Gustafson talks about the increasing significance of Big Data and the evolving importance of how data is managed to gain insights.

People power
Doug Neal and Jim Ginsburgh of the Leading Edge Forum explore the implications of a new, post-PC world where standard-issue corporate PCs and BlackBerrys, all controlled by a pervasive IT nanny state, is no more. As consumer technology providers continue to innovate, businesses are on the cusp of major change.
