Motorola's China Hub Boasts Latest Technology

As China undertook the enormous task of creating a massive Olympic infrastructure virtually from scratch in Beijing, the construction boom taking place across the city has seen the development of many notable buildings. Besides the architecturally stunning Olympic venues, other notable projects, such as Motorola's sprawling R&D campus, feature the latest technology. CSC played a key role in the Motorola project by designing a cutting-edge wireless network and provided technical expertise in many areas, including server migrations.

Crucial success factor

The Motorola China Innovation Center (MCIC) brings several laboratories and research teams together into a single regional hub. By consolidating servers, hardware and infrastructure from a variety of business units into one location, Motorola is having a much easier time managing its IT systems.

CSC's experience in building sophisticated networks was a crucial factor to the project's success. CSC employed the latest server room architecture and helped build unique grounding systems designed to withstand large earthquakes. In addition to IT infrastructure support, CSC designed the facilities' complex server and telecommunications rooms and oversaw cable installation.

'A great success story'

CSC's flexibility in working with the many different factions involved with the project also proved valuable. Contractors, subcontractors and third-party vendors had to be managed closely to ensure Motorola's high quality standards were being met.

G. Baloo, Motorola's director for IT infrastructure services in the Asia Pacific Region, calls the project "a great success story." He says, "The campus was implemented successfully through detailed planning, design, coordination and collaboration among several stakeholders."
