Public Health & Disease Surveillance Systems
At NIH and CDC, we provide scientific, engineering and IT support.
Public health is a government responsibility, and CSC helps government live up to that responsibility. At the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CSC develops and maintains public health software. We developed the CDC National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). We build biosurveillance use cases, manage data operations and support desktop users. At NIH and CDC, we provide scientific, engineering and IT support. And through DynPort Vaccine Company LLC (DVC), a CSC subsidiary, we work with research institutions and other companies to help the government protect our nation against emerging diseases and possible bioterror threats.
Services and Offerings
Public Health Surveillance. CSC led the development of a National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS)-compatible Base System (NBS), implemented by 17 state health departments and interoperable with others. The NBS enables data entry via the Web, electronic interchange of laboratory data, and an integrated data repository for multiple diseases. Learn more about public health surveillance.
Biodefense and Biosurveillance. CSC is exceptionally qualified to support government efforts to achieve real-time biosurveillance situational awareness. We have extensive experience with most of the government organizations that currently conduct biosurveillance. In some cases, we’ve built the systems they use.
Experience That Counts
At the National Institutes of Health, we're helping medical research move with a repository for clinical protocol data called BTRIS – the Biomedical Translational Research Information System.
