Nicky began his career with CSC as part of the Graduate Program. Read his view on what the right candidates need to become successful in CSC’s Graduate Program within Finance.
What kind of profile are you looking for?
We are looking for candidates that possess a commercial mindset and preferably have a business school or university degree in finance.
The ideal candidate is self-driven and capable of advanced problem-solving independently. Moreover, we will be looking for candidates that have been exposed to change. CSC, and particularly CSC’s Finance organization, is going through a change process that is fundamentally changing the way we work. Candidates will be assessed on their expected ability to thrive and succeed in that working environment while at the same time having a broader role acting as a change agent in our organization.
A personal resume with good grades is definitely an advantage but non-curricula activities and experiences are equally important. This could for example be studies or work experience abroad, or a job where the candidate has been exposed to organizational change processes.
In your eyes what are the most important abilities to possess in order to be a success in your team/in CSC?
The ability to cope with a dynamic industry and ever-changing working environment. Furthermore, the candidates need to be internationally minded. Our Finance department is international and will become a truly globalised organization within the coming few years.
Also, I would state that the candidates need to be self-driven and thereby develop their own skills by the challenges that come as part of working within Finance.
Finally, I think it is important to restate that the candidates see the possibility to join an organization in the process of changing as something challenging and fun and as an opportunity to learn fast and influence the future organizational design. It will be hard work, it will be challenging, and it will be fun!
What type of responsibilities can graduates expect in your team?
The key responsibility for anyone in Nordic Finance and also for the candidates is to be the link between business and finance. This business partnering role is about the operationalization of strategic and tactical business plans. Of course with a focus on making certain that plans are designed and executed in ways that ensure maximum economic value. The candidates have to be problem solvers - this is key in driving the organization towards the new CSC.
How do you ensure the development of the graduates?
Development occurs every day on the job. CSC and your manager will of course be supportive and coach your development through the various programs and development tools that are integrated parts of being employed in CSC. However, I believe that being a self-driven individual in Finance gives you the greatest opportunity to learn and develop your skills at a fast pace. Candidates should take control themselves, and for those who do, there will be only few limits. A steep learning curve and fast career advancement is a possibility for the right candidates and those who are willing to take on challenging projects.
What future positions do you see a graduate in after the end of the program?
Apart from taking on a permanent finance position within Nordic Finance, supporting the region, there will be possibilities to pursue international job openings as well. As CSC’s Finance organization is becoming increasingly connected globally there will possibilities across borders. In addition, as Finance is so closely tied to supporting the business and driving financial business planning, there will be possibilities to move into business management and/or sales for the right candidates.
Are there any other things you want to emphasize?
As a candidate in the Finance track you will be exposed to a broad range of possibilities. The workload and pressure will be high as we collectively move through a global finance transformation. An ever-changing work environment is part of the equation. It is going fast and by joining CSC you will be part of an unique transformational journey with few parallels globally. It will be two years filled with challenges and responsibilities, lots of learning and hopefully, a lot of fun and celebration of our successes.
