Proposal for Business Students
CSC is a global powerhouse in business and technology transformation. Our people lead businesses, governments, and communities on their digital transformation journeys and help them solve their toughest challenges, by providing innovative next-generation IT services and solutions that leverage deep industry expertise.
CSC Nordics help commercial and public sector clients solve their IT challenges by modernizing their business processes, applications, and infrastructure with next-generation technology solutions.
We are always on the lookout for new ways to reinvent ourselves, hence input from students with the newest academic knowledge is something we highly value in CSC.
In order to make better and faster decisions – and improve productivity – today's most progressive businesses are leveraging digital technologies to put highly contextualized information in the hands of their employees, partners and clients.
This demand for the right information at the right time to the right person is forcing key shifts in how IT is delivered and results are achieved, especially in light of rapidly changing regulatory controls and increasing information threats. Changes are taking place much faster than ever before. Despite the size of a company, everyone is forced to listen to customers’ feedback and adapt to it as fast as possible. If you don’t – your competitors will. The choice is then simple; you can either be in front or you will disappear.
Companies must exploit the expanding information usage to compete and thrive by using next generation technologies like cloud, mobility and big data, and updating their legacy estate. Companies need to understand these market shifts within the larger business context. They should understand how to commence the digital journey, as well as what the expected outcomes are. Importantly, IT is no longer a support function, but rather a key driver for change and transformation and has a significant impact on business performance.
We would like you to research how to best move old clients from legacy to next generation IT systems. Some possible approaches and questions could be:
• Analysis of CSC clients who have moved to next generation technology in comparison to those who still run on legacy systems.
o What are the differences?
o Cost of implementing new systems versus benefit of leveraging these new next generation technologies and the advantages they bring?
• What are the most important business benefits of using next generation technology?
o What is the perception among clients compared to the perception in the IT industry?
• Taking other companies as case examples how should CSC strategically position itself in this next generation technology market place in Norway?
• Compare scientific literature written on the topic to your own empirical findings through the data you get from CSC. What does this imply about academic theory and business practice?
• How will the use of next generation technology from a business point of view impact companies in different industries and public sector in Norway?
• Will the implementation of next generation technology accelerate disruption in business and if so to what degree in the various industries and public sector?
• How will/how is the shift from legacy to next generation technology impacting IT service providers and software companies in Norway?
We are highly interested in the success of your project and expect to apply your findings to further our strategic decisions in our organization in Norway and the Nordic region. Your findings could have a significant impact on the course of CSC Nordic business development and very likely also a notable impact among our clients. As a result, at the end of the thesis collaboration we want to have a few page executive summary report of your thesis and a presentation of the key finding to our management team and possibly some of our clients.
We are looking for a student or a group of students within the last year of their master’s degree that have a keen interest and understanding for both business and IT. We expect you to be passionate about business development and strategies in an IT setting. No programming skills are required for this project.
You should be a self-driven and autonomous person that can plan and execute independently. You should also be good at communicating with people, have strong analytical skills and be capable of asking the right questions.
CSC will provide you with full support during the entire project collaboration including access to relevant data and guidance on company specific questions. You will have a direct contact person in the company and will be exposed to the management team. There will be a spot ready for you during the thesis writing period to come work at one of our two CSC offices in Norway. Depending on your location and preference this can either be in our Oslo office at Filipstad brygge 1 or in our Bergen office at Folke Bernadottes vei 38, 5147 Fyllingsdalen.
This project collaboration will take place during Fall 2016-Spring 2017. You are already welcome to apply with your project proposals.
If you have to start your thesis prior to this application deadline or should you have any questions about the project and application process - please contact us at email@example.com.
We are looking forward to receiving your application and to start this exciting collaboration!
