CSC Reports First Cycle Results for North Carolina Medicaid Management Information System Program

Under Supplemental Drug Rebate Program, the State Can Save More Than $90 Million Annually
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Nov. 1 – CSC (NYSE: CSC) announced today that the first cycle of its Supplemental Drug Rebate Program for North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) netted the state more than $2 million in savings. When fully implemented, the new program can save the state more than $90 million annually.
CSC operates both the Supplemental Drug Rebate and the Medicaid Retrospective Drug Utilization Review (RetroDUR) programs under a contract awarded to the company in 2008. The contract calls for CSC to replace the state's current Medicaid Management Information System with a new healthcare administration system that will manage other state agency health services as well.
The CSC-managed Supplemental Drug Rebate Program allows the state’s Medicaid program to obtain reduced prices for covered medications on the North Carolina Medicaid Preferred Drug List through the use of rebates. The RetroDUR program retrospectively evaluates Medicaid recipients' prescriptions to help improve the prescribing and use of appropriate and cost-effective medications. The program also enables DHHS staff to evaluate and prevent adverse drug events caused by drug-drug interactions, drug-disease interactions, therapeutic duplication, over- and under-utilization of drug therapies, and misuse of controlled substances.
