KLAS Report Recognizes CSC as Most Experienced in CIS and CPOE Implementation, Which are Necessary Elements for Meeting Meaningful Use Requirements for Electronic Health Records
News Release -- April 14, 2010
FALLS CHURCH, Va., April 14 -- CSC (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it has been recognized as the most experienced consultancy in computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and Clinical Information System (CIS) implementation in a 2010 report by KLAS, an independent monitor of vendor performance in healthcare technology.
The report, Getting to Stimulus Funding: Which Consultants Can Help?, surveyed hospitals that have implemented a complete CPOE rollout from planning, project management, software implementation and training to a live CPOE implementation, including clinical transformation. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), hospitals will receive payments from Medicare and Medicaid starting in October 2010 for the successful implementation and meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs) including CPOE. As a result, significant growth in health providers’ use of professional services firms (PSFs) is expected, and the KLAS report aims to help hospitals as they select a PSF that will help them achieve requirements for incentive payments for using EHRs.
According to KLAS, CSC has the most direct CPOE experience with almost double the projects of its closest competitor and is the leader in number of CIS installations by a wide margin (20 installations). CSC received high marks for advisory services and is one of the few firms doing clinical transformation work with a deeper clinicians bench than most other firms.
“We are honored to be recognized for CPOE and CIS implementations,” said Deward Watts, president of CSC’s Healthcare Group. “CSC is committed to enabling our nations’ hospitals to reap the full benefit of electronic health records and provide the safest level of care while reducing the cost of delivering, reporting and paying for care. Our commitment to clinical excellence, our depth of experience in CPOE and CIS implementations, and our leadership in helping hospitals understand and plan for meaningful use equips CSC to effectively help hospitals achieve meaningful use standards within the required timeframes. In addition, as government health systems modernize, they can benefit from CSC’s experience and expertise in these commercial systems.”
“CSC offers the most CPOE and implementation experience of any Tier 1 firm,” said Lorin Bird, report author. “CSC has done a significant amount of clinical transformation work with a strong bench of clinicians. CSC demonstrates both advisory and technical aptitude and is experienced with a wide variety of vendors/products —Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, and MEDITECH.”
CSC’s Healthcare Group, which serves healthcare providers, health plans, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, and allied industries around the world, is a global leader in transforming the healthcare industry through the effective use of information to improve healthcare outcomes, decision-making and operating efficiency.
CSC’s Clinical IS Consulting services assist hospitals to accelerate their EHR implementation without unintended consequences; to design the EHR to capture data needed for quality reporting; to help physicians and other clinicians to be willing and efficient users of the EHR; and to design order sets and implement CPOE the right way the first time and achieve significant quality and safety outcomes. CSC’s CPOE services include readiness assessments, CPOE strategy and adoption planning, implementation planning, benefit planning, order set development, implementation and transformation services.
