CSC WINS $280 MILLION CONTRACT TO SUPPORT UNITED STATES PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Jan. 18 - Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it has won a systems development and integration contract to provide services to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The agreement is one of the largest information technology (IT) contracts ever awarded by the USPTO. CSC estimates the value of the award, which has one base year and seven one-year options, to be approximately $280 million to the company if all options are exercised.

Under the terms of the agreement, CSC will provide the USPTO with systems design, development, implementation, integration, maintenance, testing and training. CSC will also assess performance effectiveness and provide feedback to the USPTO to help evolve and improve life cycle processes and enterprise architecture.

“Since 1997, CSC has helped the USPTO develop and maintain information systems that are modernizing business processes and moving the agency steadily forward into world-class e-government operations,” said Paul Cofoni, president of CSC’s Federal Sector business unit. “This award underscores CSC’s experience and history with the USPTO in providing superior operational results. Under the new contract, CSC will continue working with the USPTO to help user communities improve productivity and modify systems rapidly to meet federal mandates and international commitments.”

Approximately 150 employees from CSC’s Civil Systems Development division will perform the work primarily in Alexandria, Va. The USPTO’s mission is to ensure that the intellectual property system contributes to a strong global economy, encourages investment in innovation and fosters entrepreneurial spirit.
