CSC’S RESULTS-DRIVEN COMPUTING REVIEWED BY OVUM
Industry Analyst Cites Leading Aspects of New Utility Computing Offering
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., August 11 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE:CSC) has been recognized as an emerging leader in the utility computing market by Ovum, an independent industry analyst organization.
Ovum’s recent article authored by Dr. Katy Ring, CSC to Shake Up the Utility Computing Market, assesses CSC’s utility computing strengths and validates its Results-Driven Computing (RDC) capabilities.
RDC is a flexible, vendor-independent and cost-effective way for customers to tap into computer applications and services on an as-needed basis. The RDC services offer clients predictable, "pay-as-you-use" pricing, access to a broad range of options and "just-in-time" provisioning using industry-leading security tools and practices.
In the article, Ring singles out CSC’s RDC services as distinct from other utility computing offerings because CSC does not interpret utility computing as “…the selling of large enterprise class Unix servers via a modified lease agreement over the course of the contract.” Rather, RDC is “…a service covering processing capacity, storage, data protection, network capacity (and, if relevant, application and business process services), which is not tied to any given piece of infrastructure for the life of the contract.”
“We were very thoughtful about our business Results-Driven approach to utility computing. We listened to our clients and focused on the key issues they found to be important,” said Russ Owen, president of CSC’s Global Infrastructure Services organization. “Ovum’s report validates our belief that CSC is providing exceptional utility computing services to the marketplace and has put considerable development and effort into our Results-Driven offerings.”
According to Ring’s analysis, CSC is poised to “…give pause for thought to competitors regarding the structure of their utility computing offerings, and offer large enterprise customers for outsourcing contracts a bar against which to measure utility computing capabilities.”
