CSC AND SAINT VINCENT CATHOLIC MEDICAL CENTERS WIN OUTSOURCING JOURNAL’S EDITOR’S CHOICE AWARD

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 9, 2003 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC), one of the world's leading information technology (IT) services firms, and Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers (SVCMC), a comprehensive health care system servicing the New York metropolitan area, have won Outsourcing Journal's 2003 Editor's Choice Award for "Best Partnership." The company and health system were selected from a field of 90 nominations from around the world.

“Outsourcing's success relies on both parties understanding each other's needs and focusing on what they need to do to help each other achieve business goals,” said Peter Bendor-Samuel, CEO and founder of Everest Group and the Outsourcing Center. “The relationship between CSC and Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers clearly demonstrates effective use of this principle and mutual flexibility in several dynamic situations. It's outsourcing at its best."

In 2000, CSC signed a seven-year IT outsourcing contract with SVCMC to manage the medical centers’ business and clinical information systems, including telecommunications, legacy software applications, mainframe and midrange computers, 5,500 desktop computers and help-desk operations. Since then, the outsourcing relationship has resulted in the consolidation of data centers and help desks; upgrades in the network, hardware and applications; and general improvement in operations and efficiencies.

"CSC locked in on our strategic direction and mission, enabling us to maximize our operations and provide better services to our patients," said David J. Campbell, CEO and President for SVCMC. "We have been very pleased with our experience in an outsourcing relationship with CSC."

An article entitled "Power Implant. Outsourcing… or Insourcing" in the May 15, 2003 issue of Outsourcing Journal highlights CSC's relationship with SVCMC. Awards were presented to both CSC and SVCMC during the Sourcing Interests Group's semi-annual conference held May 6-9, 2003, at the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach, California.

Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers (SVCMC) is one of the New York metropolitan area’s most comprehensive health care systems, serving over 500,000 people annually. It was established in 2000 as a result of the merger of Catholic Medical Centers of Brooklyn and Queens, Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center of New York and Sisters of Charity Healthcare in Staten Island. Sponsored by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn and Sisters of Charity of New York, SVCMC serves as the academic medical center of New York Medical College in New York City.
