COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION UNVEILS KNOWLEDGE SOLUTIONS LAB
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Dec. 2 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) recently unveiled its Knowledge Solutions Lab in Falls Church, Va.
CSC’s Knowledge Solutions Lab (KSL) opened in October to showcase CSC’s knowledge management solutions and to demonstrate the applied use of emerging technologies. Knowledge management solutions enable businesses to leverage knowledge, information and expertise to improve organizational innovation, responsiveness, productivity and competency.
A recent survey taken by the Baldridge Award Foundation found that almost 90 percent of the more than 300 CEOs who responded named “improving knowledge management” as one of their top concerns, making it second only to globalization as a CEO priority. In addition, International Data Corporation (IDC) recently published a series of reports in which they identified knowledge management as one of five key success factors. In the report, IDC gave CSC the top rating of “very strong” for its knowledge program.
CSC established its KSL in order to share the company’s success in developing and implementing knowledge management systems with its clients and to share thoughts on the direction of knowledge management as a strategic tool. In doing so, it formed strong alliances with major suppliers of knowledge management technologies, including IBM.
“CSC views its ability to build and leverage knowledge as a competitive advantage for the company and our clients,” said Carol Bothwell, CSC’s chief knowledge officer. “Our experience with implementing our knowledge environment, CSC Sources, enables us to support our clients in their knowledge management initiatives.”
CSC is a member of the IBM/Lotus-sponsored Institute for Knowledge Management, a group of about 30 companies that share, in a research setting, knowledge management experience and expertise. The new CSC Knowledge Solutions Lab will help CSC directly apply that know-how to solutions and offerings for its customers.
Computer Sciences Corporation helps clients in industry and government use information technology (I/T) to achieve strategic and operational objectives. With 54,000 employees in more than 700 offices worldwide, the company tailors solutions from a broad suite of integrated service and technology offerings, including e-business strategies and technologies; management and I/T consulting; systems development and integration; application software; and I/T and business process outsourcing.
Since its formation in 1959, CSC has been known for its flexibility in its relationships with clients. Through numerous agreements with hardware and software technology firms, the company is able to identify and manage solutions specifically tailored to each client’s needs. CSC had revenues of $8.2 billion for the twelve months ended October 1, 1999. Its headquarters are in El Segundo, California. For more information, visit the company’s web site at www.csc.com.
