CSC BOLSTERS APPLICATIONS CAPABILITIES WITH BUSINESS UNIT CMM LEVEL 3 RATING
El SEGUNDO, Calif., Oct. 31 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) today announced that its Application Services Division (ASD) has earned the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Software Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 3 Rating for its aerospace support. The SEI ratings, developed by Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa., assist customers in determining reliable and low-risk suppliers of software products and services.
The CSC unit was evaluated for the Level 3 rating in recognition of its comprehensive support of a Texas-based aerospace firm. Currently, more than 600 CSC information technology professionals provide a suite of business solutions in support of the company’s manufacturing capability.
“The current Level 3 rating for our aerospace work is particularly significant since this criteria is now being followed by other ASD business units to reduce time and expenses required to achieve similar Level 3 ratings,” said Mary Jo Morris, president, ASD. “Our aerospace team has definitely established a new benchmark for rapidly delivering the benefits of a Level 3 organization to outsourcing clients.”
SEI Software CMM ratings are earned through an exhaustive independent evaluation involving analysis and review of a company’s software development capability, processes and products. Kathryn Gallucci, Senior Consultant for P3I Incorporated and a SEI authorized lead evaluator, led the evaluation, which included document reviews and interviews covering the key process software areas.
“CSC has demonstrated a tremendous commitment to process improvement within this particular aerospace organization,” said Gallucci. “In so doing, they have been able to develop an infrastructure that has allowed them to progress from Level 2 to Level 3 within only six months.” According to statistics maintained by the SEI, most organizations require 22 months to move from CMM Level 2 to Level 3.
The aerospace unit now joins other CSC business units that have achieved SEI ratings, most notably two units with the company’s Federal Sector, which have been evaluated at Level 5, the highest SEI CMM rating.
ASD’s 5,000 employees provide lifecycle applications portfolio support globally to CSC’s commercial outsourcing clients, leveraging the company’s experience and methodologies to improve a client’s return on applications investments. ASD is a part of CSC’s Technology Management Group, headquartered in Falls Church, Va., which is responsible for the company’s large outsourcing engagements throughout North America.
