CSC LEADS FLAGSHIP ALLIANCE INPURSUIT OF NAVY/MARINE CORPS INTRANET OPPORTUNITY
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Feb. 10 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) today announced the formation of the CSC Flagship Alliance to pursue the multibillion-dollar Navy/Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) opportunity announced by the Department of the Navy in December. The eight-year contract will provide secure voice, video and data services to service members and employees of the Navy and Marine Corps.
As prime contractor of the alliance, CSC has assembled a blue-ribbon team of some of the world’s largest and most respected telecommunications companies, systems integrators, technology providers, information security experts and trainers. The CSC Flagship Alliance includes principal members Bell Atlantic, Cisco, Dell, BBN (a subsidiary of GTE Corporation), ISS and Microsoft.
The alliance, which includes numerous smaller member firms, combines the intellectual capital of more than 500,000 professionals to address the NMCI service area requirements in the United States, Guantanamo Bay (Cuba), Roosevelt Roads (Puerto Rico) and Keflavik (Iceland).
The NMCI contract is designed to standardize and manage over 400,000 “seats,” or desktops, and assist the Department of the Navy and the Defense Information Systems Agency in consolidating multiple, independent networks across the Navy and Marine Corps.
“Our team understands the task at hand,” said Milt Cooper, CSC’s Federal Sector president. “Together, we provide strong information technology expertise, proven best commercial practices and large-scale systems management skills that are aligned with current and future Department of the Navy initiatives.”
The CSC Flagship Alliance provides a balance of methodologies, best practices, and commercial-off-the-shelf software and applications delivered by a world-class team of information technology service providers that literally helps power the World Wide Web.
“This ‘best-of-breed’ approach allowed us to field a team dedicated to supporting both warfighting and warfighting support requirements of the Navy and Marine Corps in a second-to-none, secure environment,” said Thomas C. Robinson, president of CSC’s Defense Group.
CSC is leveraging its broad capabilities to complement the full power of the CSC Flagship Alliance in supporting the NMCI. “We bring a global perspective to our strategy, technologies, service delivery models and costs as we build our overall solution,” said Robinson. “With extensive outsourcing expertise and our 40-year heritage of supporting the federal government, we are best-suited to understand and address the true overall mission needs of the Navy and Marine Corps.”
