EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Feb. 6 - Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it has won a contract to provide systems engineering and integration support to the Department of Defense’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA). CSC estimates the value of the contract, which has a one-year base period and four one-year options, to be $151 million if all options are exercised. This contract follows an agreement CSC signed with the MDA in 2002.
Under the terms of the new agreement, CSC will continue to provide scientific, engineering and technical assistance for the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense System, which is designed to intercept and destroy enemy ballistic missiles and defend the U.S., its deployed forces and its allies.
“CSC is proud to continue its support to the Missile Defense Agency and the crucial role the contract plays in the design and integration of the Ballistic Missile Defense System,” said James W. Sheaffer, president of CSC’s Federal Sector business unit. “Building on our more than 20 years of experience and service to the agency and its predecessor organizations, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering significant operational results that support the MDA’s mission objectives.”
Teaming with CSC is Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), of San Diego, Calif.
The Missile Defense Agency's mission is to develop, test and prepare for deployment of a missile defense system. Using complementary interceptors, land-, sea-, air- and space-based sensors, and battle management command and control systems, the planned missile defense system will be able to engage all classes and ranges of ballistic missile threats.
