Falls Church, Va., Aug. 4 -- A team headed by Nichols Research Corporation including Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) has been awarded a contract to provide engineering and technical support to the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) at the Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala. The value of the pact to CSC is approximately $19.4 million if all options are exercised during a three-year period of performance.
As a subcontractor to Nichols Research, CSC will provide systems analysis, design and fabrication; simulation software; system, subsystem and component test and evaluation; and scientific computing in support of the command's Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (MRDEC). CSC will also build complex weapon system models in a variety of programming languages for analysis during live, virtual and constructive simulations.
The work includes integration of simulation into a full spectrum battlefield force-on- force environment; conduct of test, experimentation, validation and verification; and analyses to assist the armed forces in making weapons systems acquisition decisions. CSC engineers and computer scientists will build prototypes of experimental and conceptual weapons systems for follow-on simulation evaluation.
Contract work will be performed by CSC's modeling, simulation and training unit, a part of the company's Defense Group headquartered in Falls Church, Va. Approximately 30 engineers, computer specialists, simulation specialists and operations research analysts will support the contract in Huntsville.
Teaming with CSC are Dynetics, Inc., Huntsville, responsible for research and development services; SAIC, Huntsville, providing aviation systems software engineering services; and KBM, Inc., Huntsville, a small business providing engineering services, analysis and supplies. The Army Aviation and Missile Command's MRDEC is responsible for research, exploratory and advanced development of Army missile and aviation systems.
