News Release -- January 31, 2000

COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION AND VERITY ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC ALLIANCE: CSC CHOOSES VERITY AS FOUNDATION FOR ITS SOURCES KNOWLEDGE BASE; AGREES TO RESELLVERITY’S AWARD-WINNING PRODUCT SUITE

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Jan. 31 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) and Verity, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRTY), a leading provider of enterprise and Internet knowledge retrieval solutions, today announced a strategic alliance to deliver advanced portal and knowledge retrieval solutions to CSC’s employees and its customers.

As part of the alliance, CSC has selected Verity as the foundation for its Sources Knowledge Portal and has agreed to resell Verity’s award-winning product suite. At CSC, mission-critical information is found in the company’s robust Sources knowledge base, which includes summaries of leading business practices and client proposals. CSC selected Verity’s technology to maximize internal information sharing and enable employee navigation of CSC’s vast knowledge resources. It is also deploying Verity technology in a new Knowledge Management Lab at its Falls Church, Virginia location.

"We chose Verity’s solution because it allows us to take a managed approach to dealing with our extensive knowledge base,” said Carol Bothwell, CSC’s chief knowledge officer. “With Verity, we’re able to store knowledge throughout the company while managing that knowledge from a central site. This enables our employees to access all of our knowledge repositories via a universal user interface.

"CSC also chose Verity's solution in establishing a Knowledge Solutions Lab where we can exchange and share the best ideas, technology and innovations with our clients and alliance partners," Bothwell added. "The lab demonstrates CSC's and Verity's capability in emerging knowledge management technologies and how it's applied in global knowledge management solutions."

CSC and Verity also intend to work closely to assist customers whose enterprise computing needs require both a top-tier solutions provider and an advanced knowledge retrieval solution. Verity offers a suite of easy-to-use products that provide an automated and secure way for IS administrators to organize, build and centrally maintain indices of documents stored on Web and file servers. The products also enable retrospective search and ad hoc queries of any Verity collection, as well as one-button domain indexing.

"As one of the world's preeminent providers of enterprise I/T solutions, CSC is an important partner for Verity,” said Ronald Weissman, vice president, Strategy and Corporate Marketing at Verity, Inc. "CSC's internal commitment to Verity technology and the proven success it has already had implementing our solutions for Global 2000 customers is a testament to their expertise and our market leadership position in knowledge retrieval.”
