CSC’S AUSTIN YERKS RECOGNIZED FOR DEFENSE INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP AT FIRST ANNUAL BASE REALIGNMENT AND CLOSURE EDUCATIONAL DAY
Event Brings Together Government and Industry Leaders To Address BRAC-related Issues
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Sept. 17 -- CSC (NYSE: CSC) announced today that Austin Yerks, president of CSC’s North American Public Sector, Defense Division, was recognized for his outstanding executive leadership in the defense industry at the first annual Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Educational Day, held recently in Washington, D.C. CSC was the Grand Premiere sponsor of the sold-out event.
Hosted by Potomac Forum, Ltd., the one-day educational forum brought together professionals who are affected by or are supporting activities for BRAC, including military personnel; federal, state and local government officials; industry partners and business and non-profit leaders to discuss relevant issues. Government and industry leaders presented real-world insight into how to respond to BRAC and implement successful and sustainable programs.
Art Chantker, event organizer and president of Potomac Forum, Ltd. said, “There are many executives in the area, but there’s also a short list of those senior executives who have provided true leadership – executive leadership – for the defense community. When you ask folks around town, one name goes to the top of that list and that name is Austin Yerks.”
“The Defense Department and its agencies are facing unprecedented challenges in this world of increasing complexity, and the 2005 BRAC restructuring adds to these challenges,” said Yerks. “CSC’s expertise enables government clients to prepare for this critical time of transformation, consolidation and continuous modernization. We are honored to help bring this important educational event to those who will be impacted, directly or indirectly, at all levels.”
Rep. Robert E. “Bud” Cramer Jr., D-Ala. (5th CD) presented the keynote speech in which he spoke about the Alabama delegation's experiences preparing for the 2005 BRAC. CSC employs nearly 1,000 people in North Alabama.
Key leaders in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Congress who play a significant role in BRAC addressed a broad range of topics. In the afternoon, participants split into track sessions in technology or management, where they explored tools, products, resources, best practices and innovative strategies.
BRAC is the congressionally authorized process the DoD used to reorganize its base structure to more efficiently and effectively support U.S. forces, increase operational readiness and facilitate new ways of doing business.
