GE CARD SERVICES CHOOSES CSC’S REMITTANCE PROCESSING SYSTEM UNDER $27-MILLION DEAL

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., July 20 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that GE Card Services, a business unit of GE Capital Services, has selected CSC’s RPS-NT image-based remittance processing system. Under the agreement, CSC will implement the RPS-NT system at all three GE Card Services payment processing operations centers and provide hardware and software maintenance. The contract is valued at $27 million if all options are exercised over a five-year period.

This month, Card Services completed final acceptance of the first installation at its operations center in Orlando, Fla., following two months of assessment in a production environment. Installations at the other two operations centers are scheduled for later this year.

“With more than 100 million accounts, GE Card Services is the nation’s largest private-label credit card servicing organization,” said Elmer Lentz, director of Integration and Technology for GE Card Services. “When RPS-NT is implemented at all our operations centers, we will use it to process nearly 30 million payments each month. CSC will enable us to reduce our costs, improve operator productivity and increase processing speed.”

RPS-NT includes a centrally located image archive facility that will store and enable access to transaction data and images from all GE Card Services operations. The system incorporates CSC’s Image Character Recognition (ICR) technology for automatically reading handwritten data on checks and “amount paid” fields on payment coupons. CSC’s ICR capability has more than doubled the number of payments Card Services is able to process, while keeping errors below the level typical of manual keying operations.

“GE Card Services is widely regarded as a technology innovator in financial services applications,” said David Blanton, executive vice president of Banking Solutions for CSC’s Financial Services Group in the Americas. “The decision to deploy the RPS-NT system underscores Card Services’ commitment to improving operational performance for its credit card customers.”
