Microscopic organisms harvest energy from the sun and are then buried in the sediment of lakes and the sea floor. Over time, the oils in these plants are converted to what we now collect as petroleum from deposits around the world, turning into gasoline, diesel, and other fuels and lubricants. So it seems logical to see if algae can be specially grown to provide a renewable fuel source today. Read our Point of View (PDF 265KB). |
