CSC Baltic having operated in Lithuania for 5 years is planning further development of the IT service centre

Global IT services company CSC which 5 years ago was among the first companies to open an IT services unit in Lithuania declares its plans for further growth through development of its customers circle and increase in staff.
"Lithuania remains being an attractive place for investment and development of CSC unit - the number of international IT companies on the market is still limited, therefore competition is less severe than in for example neighbouring Poland or Czech Republic, where our company and other international firms have their regional centres. Besides, Lithuanians are industrious and diligent and also are culturally closer to Western Europe and USA", stated CSC Manager for Nordic Europe John Walsh, who came to Lithuania on two days visit.
According to him, Lithuanian centre already provides services to global customers of CSC in Nordic countries, France, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Austria, as well as USA and Asia. Lithuanians provide primary assistance to them on IT issues, service various business management, security and other computer systems. In the process of IT services centre development, the major development is planned in the existing fields of services, maintaining infrastructure of companies, there are also plans to target CSC strategic decisions in cloud computing, visualisation and mobile apps development and servicing.
Strategic plans stipulates growth
According to Managing Director of CSC Branch in Lithuania Antanas Uršulis, in 2012 alone the number of employees in CSC Baltic office increased by 10%, while the company has set a target to expand itself up to the size of service centre of global practice.
"It is optimum and economically beneficial when this type of IT service centre has over 1 thousand employees. Then, the best rates of efficiency and management are achieved, excellent service quality is guaranteed. Our vision in the course of business development is to grow up to this recommended size in long-term perspective" said Mr. Ušulis. Global practice of increasing sizes of centres has fully justified itself, therefore consolidation of centres stipulated in the CSC strategy is very significant for Lithuania, as well.
According to him, initial investments into additional workplace creation and recruitment vary immensely, depending on the type of specialist searched. Recruitment of highly qualified specialists of rare professions sometimes costs a lot in Lithuania.
Maintly IT and language specialists will be hunted
According to Mr. Uršulis, in the course of company development, mainly IT and language specialists speaking Scandinavian, Western European and other languages of neighbouring countries will be searched.
"We already have similar number of IT and language specialists in our IT service centre. When working with foreign markets, we need staff capable of speaking native languages of those countries. Therefore in our company we teach IT specialists additional foreign languages, and provide IT knowledge to language specialists. During the expansion, we will need staff with command of Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, French, German, Spanish, English, Russian", said the Head of CSC Baltic.
When talking about the supply of IT specialists in Lithuania, A. Uršulis states that companies are already competing for gifted IT specialists, but CSC Baltic hopes to attract employees by offering greater diversity of work, possibility to work with the leading companies of different sectors from various countries in the world. CSC Lithuanian Branch services large companies operating in insurance, medicine, travel, logistic, industry and other sectors.
"I still believe that education system in Lithuania should be more flexible and quicker respond to changing demands on labour market. The demand for IT experts is growing on the labour market - not only CSC Baltic but also other IT service companies, banks are growing. The country demonstrates willingness to attract more foreign IT companies, while they want be confident that strong labour will be sufficiently available here. Young people should also be stronger encouraged to learn foreign languages - there is a definite shortage of Scandinavian language specialists on the market and command of additional language may help young people in finding a job and make career", advised Managing Director of CSC Baltic.
According to him, in order to provide high quality services to foreign customers, CSC Baltic employs foreigners as well, who account for about 10% of the staff.
