CSC BENCHMARKS LIFE AND PENSIONS SOFTWARE

Simulations Assess More Than 47,000 Transactions

Aldershot, 28 June 2005 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC), a leading global information technology (IT) services company, announced today the results of a performance and scalability benchmark test of its insurance software system, GraphTalk A.I.A., on IBM infrastructure. The benchmark confirms GraphTalk A.I.A.’s place as one of the most powerful and robust systems of its kind in the European market today.

Introduced in 1994, GraphTalk A.I.A. is CSC’s strategic software solution for the European life, pensions and health industry. It administers individual and group investment, and traditional life and pensions products, including unit-linked savings, employee benefits and health. GraphTalk A.I.A. is used in 18 countries in nearly 90 installations across all lines of business, from new business to claims, making it one of the most popular software systems used by insurers.

CSC tested the system over a five-week period at IBM’s EMEA Benchmark Centre in Montpellier, France. The benchmark simulated real-life scenarios in both group and individual life and pensions business, representing 12 million policies and more than three terabytes of data. One test simulated the workload of 4,000 users performing more than 47,000 business transactions per hour. Each was executed within less than a one-second response time. CSC also benchmarked GraphTalk A.I.A.’s batch processing capabilities, proving the system is able to calculate and generate more than 1.2 million premium bills per hour. This benchmark was performed on IBM eServer pSeries and IBM TotalStorage.

“The shift towards more centralised processing, increased automation and straight-through processing means that companies have to manage much higher volumes of transactions,” said Jean-Charles Miginiac, managing director of CSC’s European life and pensions operations. “The technology has to support these increasingly challenging requirements and, as one of the world’s largest software service providers with a long history of experience in financial innovation, we take our responsibilities seriously, carrying out regular ‘checkpoints’ to ensure that our software and systems continue to deliver the results our clients need. This exercise proves that GraphTalk A.I.A. is able to do this with ease and has proved its place in our portfolio of tried and tested solutions for managing the processing needs of the world’s largest financial services organisations.”
