CSC achieves new milestone for the U.S. Army Logistics Modernization Program
Army Materiel Command Now Certifying Financial Reports through the LMP
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Nov. 15 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that the U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC) has successfully completed and certified its fiscal year 2006 reporting through the Logistics Modernization Program (LMP). The financial books were closed at the Communications and Electronics Life Cycle Management Command (CECOM) and its maintenance depot at Tobyhanna, the largest, full-service electronics maintenance facility in the Department of Defense (DoD).
With the successful year-end close at CECOM and Tobyhanna, CSC is laying the foundation for the AMC to have a single, accurate view of financial and logistics resources through the LMP. AMC commanders will be able to meet the requirements of their fiduciary responsibility to the DoD and have real-time visibility into inventory, requisition and distribution checkpoints throughout the supply chain.
CSC is leading the modernization effort of deploying the Army’s national logistics system, which serves as the foundation for the DoD’s Single Army Logistics Enterprise program. This effort delivers enterprise resource planning functionality through an application service provider model, which enables the AMC to buy services rather than manage the technology. The application strategy transitions the AMC away from using legacy, point applications to a single, integrated commercial off-the-shelf solution. This solution enables the AMC to keep pace with best practices and capabilities, and supports future system adaptability and responsiveness.
“The success of this project can be attributed to the close working relationship among CSC, the Program Executive Office, the AMC, and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service,” said James W. Sheaffer, president of CSC’s Federal Sector business unit. “Through our combined efforts, we have achieved producing the most comprehensive series of financial reports. This has made a big difference in the speed and accuracy of a new and modernized practice, ultimately achieving significant operational efficiencies and business results.”
The LMP is one of the most complex modernization efforts within the DoD. CSC, the lead systems integrator, and the Army are working together to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the logistics operations that support America’s warfighters.
When the LMP is fully deployed, procurement, asset management, depot maintenance planning and execution, financial management, ammunition manufacturing and maintenance, requisition processing, and long-term supply planning will be integrated through one system. Ultimately, the LMP will manage an inventory of up to six million items and $40 billion in goods and services annually, and will help manage a supply chain serving 50,000 vendors and up to a million customers.
The achievement at CECOM and Tobyhanna prepares the AMC for the continued deployment of the LMP that will support collaborative planning at all five AMC commands. The LMP is scheduled to be fully deployed throughout the AMC during the next three years.
