DR. SHARON L. HAYS JOINS CSC AS VICE PRESIDENT, OFFICE OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
FALLS CHURCH, Va., April 6 -- CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced that Dr. Sharon L. Hays has joined the company as vice president of the Office of Science and Engineering for its North American Public Sector (NPS) line of business. Dr. Hays will coordinate science and engineering activities across NPS and help develop new growth opportunities in those areas, including the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Antarctic research program. She has been designated and will assume the role of science support director of Antarctic Research Support LLC, a joint venture formed to pursue the NSF support contract.
Before joining CSC, Dr. Hays was associate director and deputy director for science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), Executive Office of the President. In this role, she led the strategic direction for all OSTP activities related to a range of science initiatives, advised White House offices on environmental and security policies, and led the U.S. delegation to the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Prior to this, she was chief of staff at the OSTP where she oversaw operations including the office's legislative, public affairs, international and legal activities, security operations and administration. She has also held several positions on Capitol Hill, including staff director for the Research Subcommittee of the House Science Committee during the 107th Congress.
"It is a tremendous honor to welcome Dr. Hays to our executive staff to lead the strategy for our science and engineering efforts," said Thomas P. Anderson, president of CSC's North American Public Sector Civil and Government Health Services Group. "Her expertise as a senior policymaker within the U.S. government and track record in domestic and international pursuits, combined with her hands-on experience as a scientist and focus on results, make her the right person to bring increased concentration and attention to an area that has always been a core part of CSC's business."
Dr. Hays holds a bachelor's degree in molecular biology from University of California, Berkeley and received a doctorate in biochemistry from Stanford University. She is also a former member of the board of directors for Women in Aerospace and the advisory board for the American Association for the Advancement of Science Congressional Fellowship program. Additionally, she is a certified K9 search and rescue wilderness dog handler and a former president and training director for DOGS-East Search and Rescue organization.
