Carl Kinson is the technology portfolio integration lead for CSC's Office of the CTO, where he defines CSC’s technology strategy and develops reference architectures, working across our CTO community and vendor ecosystem to provide alignment and thought leadership for technology adoption and integration into CSC.
An expert in big data, Platform and Infrastructure architectures, Carl has over 19 years’ experience designing, building and managing complex solutions that help clients across industries maximize the potential of their organization through business-led IT solutions.
Carl served as chief architect for CSC’s Big Data business, working with a team of solution designers and senior architects to create the core architectures and principles for the new business unit. This included integrating the Infochimps platform (acquired by CSC) with CSC’s cloud architecture, service management framework, and cyber security platforms, leading to the release of Big Data Platform as a Service. As part of this work, Carl helped lead the re-design of the Infochimps platform to enable easy integration with the CSC ecosystem and reduce coding complexity, while maintaining the open source nature and approach that is a hallmark of Infochimps.
For the National Health Service (NHS) National Program for IT, Carl was a lead in the design and directed the implementation of a breakthrough technical storage and data protection solution to achieve strict Service Level Agreements for the storage and protection of patient record data. At the time, technology did not enable this to happen “out of the box” so the storage products and policy-based engines had to be integrated to coordinate the failover and synchronization of the data.
Carl was portfolio owner and lead designer for CSC’s Storage as a Service offering, developing the offering concept, design and implementation working with primary partners EMC, Symantec, HDS, IBM and NetApp.. This offering is being deployed in CSC’s data centers and is the default solution for all storage and data protection requirements.
Carl positions CSC solutions and technologies for analysts and key accounts and blogs at CSC’s Ingenious Minds.
