Distinguished Architect - Mike Dyer
Mike Dyer is a senior principal solution architect with deep experience in both Global Business Services and Global Infrastructure Services. He has architected solutions for continuous operations, high-performance applications, multi-system interoperability and application modernization. Mike is a 2009 IRS CIO Award for Excellence Winner and received the CSC Award for Technical Excellence in 2004 and 2002. He is co-creator of CSC’s Global Architecture (A10) Capability Framework and a leader of CSC’s Architecture & Engineering Community.
“Always start with the data. Data outlasts systems, languages, and people. Elegant software design cannot compensate for bad or out-of-date data. Putting expensive code on top of bad data is like putting racing tires on a Yugo; in the end it’s still a Yugo and no one wants it.” –Mike Dyer
A senior principal solution architect, Mike Dyer has deep experience in both Global Business Services (GBS) and Global Infrastructure Services (GIS), serving many GBS clients and establishing architecture governance and standards in GIS and the broader CSC. When designing and implementing solutions, he brings a unique, integrated perspective to business processes, location, data and organizational change.
Mike has architected solutions for continuous operations, high-performance applications, multi-system interoperability and application modernization. He is highly skilled in many areas—data, applications, technology, business processes, location, organization change, systems monitoring management, and security—that are all necessary for transitioning clients to as-a-service environments.
Mike led the creation of an application-based migration architecture that is a template for CSC’s delivery of next-generation systems. He designed the delivery method and contract vehicles for delivering infrastructure, applications and information management components in an integrated as-a-service model. This delivers both an IT strategy as well as a complete refurbishment of the client’s IT at a much lower cost and in a way that eliminates most of the risk associated with a complex delivery.
Mike played a critical role as chief architect and CTO for the UK National Health Service (NHS), getting the program on track with significant architectural changes, both technical and organizational. Mike led the successful redesign and re-deployment of CSC’s Lorenzo electronic health records system at NHS, where it is running at 9 hospitals with no downtime.
For the implementation in 2009 of the IRS Tax Modernization systems, still in use today, Mike received the IRS CIO's Award for Excellence. He received the CSC Award for Technical Excellence in 2004 for the successful implementation of the New York State Medicaid system, and the CSC Award for Technical Excellence in 2002 for his work on a predictive Architecture Visualization and Modeling decision support system.
Mike is co-creator of CSC’s Global Architecture (A10) Capability Framework, which has had a major impact on the architecture profession, training and assignments at CSC, and is a leader of CSC’s Architecture & Engineering Community.
