“When designing a system or architecture put yourself in the place of the people who are responsible for delivering it. How will it be managed? Did you make the delivery team’s job more difficult – or impossible? A great solution succeeds across all dimensions: vision, fit, and execution.” – Kevin Aylward
Kevin Aylward is the Director of CSC's AWS Global Solution Center of Excellence and leads the technical portion of CSC's global alliance with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Prior to taking that role he served as a senior solution architect in CSC's North American Public Sector, leading the design and capture of cloud, infrastructure, unified communications and training opportunities across the U.S. Department of Defense and civilian agencies.
Kevin designs solutions that increase system reliability while decreasing capital and operational costs through aggressive virtualization and automation. He led the capture, solution and delivery for CSC’s first AWS win, at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, following the announcement of the CSC-AWS Enterprise Agreement. Kevin has been active in leading the technical and partnering relationship with AWS from the beginning of the relationship between the two companies.
Kevin led the technical solutioning and cloud pricing for CSC's FAA Cloud Services contract win around AWS, Microsoft Azure and CSC Agility, shifting the focus from infrastructure to applications and providing a robust, secure and scalable DevOps platform to position the customer for transformation. Working with other architects and offering managers across CSC, Kevin helped transform the FAA solution into the CSC Hybrid Cloud Service offerings. Working closely with the offering team, he was the first solution architect to solution and bid the CSC Hybrid Cloud Service, winning a spot as a prime contractor on the National Institutes of Health Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center (NIH/NITAAC) Chief Information Officer - Commodities and Solutions (CIO-CS) contract, a $20 billion Government Wide Acquisition Contract (GWAC) Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract that is open for any federal agency or military service to use. CIO-CS covers everything IT including cloud, mobility, cyber, DevOps, collaboration and more, both on site and in the cloud.
Prior to joining CSC, Kevin worked as an enterprise architect for the Air National Guard A6/CIO office, designing Active Directory, Exchange, and SharePoint deployments for over 100,000 users and re-architecting the wide area network to withstand regional disasters such as those that occurred during Hurricane Katrina. His efforts resulted in the ANG CIO office receiving the 2007 CIO 100 Award and the 2008 Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders Award.
Kevin is an AWS Certified Solution Architect and Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer and holds an MBA in IT Management and a BBA in Business Economics.
