Implementation of Out Patient Pharmacy Replacement System

CSC partnered with Kaiser Permanente to design and implement a complex integration architecture and data warehouse for a new national pharmacy system serving nine million Kaiser customers in the United States at over 400 pharmacies. Our team developed and integrated various standard services, components and products and leveraged agile development techniques and service automation to achieve significant savings in time and cost.
The Out Patient Pharmacy Replacement system is being rolled out to over 400 pharmacies across the United States. Our team made significant contributions in development, testing, support, data migration, implementation support and roll-out of this complex integration. We performed multiple roles including project management, architects, scrum masters, IT designers, QA testers and developers, using integration tools and technologies such as message brokers, DataPower, WebSphere application servers and Informatica.
We created a unique data conversion methodology to convert data from the existing pharmacy systems to the new large-scale enterprise pharmacy system. This was a critical success factor to ensure integrity, meet deadlines, satisfy audits and minimize any post-production data problems. The team used agile scrum techniques so that on-going requirements demanding immediate resolution could be addressed promptly, and critical applications could be integrated and tested with the new system as requirements evolved and changed.
We developed and deployed automation tools for faster time to market. Over 250 development hours per month were saved as a result of automation and process improvements. In one measure, regression testing of 240 scenarios was reduced from 2½ days to 2 hours.
