Mobile Tech and the Cloud: Made for Each Other
by Siki Giunta
Some things naturally go together. Milk and cookies. Movies and popcorn. Mobile technology and the cloud.
Mobile technology and the cloud were made for each other. That’s due mainly to the vast ocean of data that flows every minute to and from the literally billions of mobile devices worldwide. Without the cloud, accommodating all this data would be simply impossible.
To illustrate, let’s take a quick look at my smartphone. There, I have about 35 apps loaded; of these, I estimate that five get updated daily. My phone also holds three email accounts, which keep me busy. I also send and receive many photos, and I frequently download and play both music and video files. That’s a lot of data I’m sending and receiving from a wide variety of servers and online services. And I’m accessing most of them through the cloud.
The quantity of data flowing to and from mobile devices via the cloud will only grow. As you probably know, 4G service is expanding worldwide, providing ultra-broadband Internet service to our smartphones and computing tablets. That means even more files, pictures, music and apps raining down from the cloud in the future.
There is a catch, however. While many companies have “mobile-enabled” at least parts of their workforce, they’ve often done so with solutions that are piecemeal and therefore only partially managed. The result? Costly duplications of effort, as well as challenges with training, support, scalability and security.
Fortunately, there’s a way to avoid these risks. Namely, by adopting a scalable, manageable, step-by-step approach to enabling mobile access to cloud-based processes and applications. CSC, of course, offers just such a service. It keeps cooperation between the cloud and mobile technology as productive as it was meant to be.
