CSC LICENSES REINSURANCE SOFTWARE TO ZEP-RE


Company is CSC’s First Kenyan Customer to Use SICS/nt Software

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 1 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC), a leading global information technology (IT) services company, announced today that Kenya-based ZEP-RE (PTA-Reinsurance company) has licensed SICS/nt, CSC’s international insurance and reinsurance solution, to administer the company’s reinsurance processes. In doing so, ZEP-RE becomes CSC’s first SICS/nt customer in Kenya.

SICS/nt is CSC’s object-oriented administration software for assumed reinsurance business for companies operating in the life, and property and casualty reinsurance market. The solution’s product suite manages administrative functions including treaty and facultative underwriting, risk management, cession/retrocession, claims handling, technical accounting and reporting on one global platform.

Established in Nairobi in 1992, ZEP-RE is an institution of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and was established with the main goal of fostering economic growth and development in the region through the trade of insurance and reinsurance business.

SICS/nt gives us all the functionality we need within a fully integrated system that has the inherent flexibility and scalability to grow with us and help us meet our goal of being the region’s foremost provider of first-class reinsurance services.”

About ZEP-RE

ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company) is a specialised institution of the COMESA, established to service and develop the needs of the insurance and reinsurance industry within the Sub-Region. The agreement establishing ZEP-RE was signed by Heads of State and Government on 23rd November, 1990 in Mbabane, Swaziland. ZEP-RE commenced underwriting business on 1st January, 1993.

Currently there are 29 shareholders from 14 countries plus PTA Bank representing COMESA. The asset base of the Company is currently US$29,484,930. A ten-storied Headquarters building has just been completed in the Upper Hill area of Nairobi. From a modest gross premium income of US$4 million in 1993, the Company has grown and currently writes a gross premium income of US$25 million.

This premium income is derived from 49 countries in Africa, Middle East and the Indian sub-continent.

As of 10 May 2005, ZEP-RE had a staff compliment of 33 with 3 of them stationed at ZEP-RE’s regional office in Sudan and 3 seconded to Tanzania Reinsurance Company (TAN-RE) which is managed by ZEP-RE.

At the close of the year 2004, ZEP-RE was accorded a regional credit rating of “AA” and a “BBB” international credit rating by Global Credit Rating Company (GCR).
