Formed in 2004 from the merger between Assurances Mutuelles de l’Indre and Mutuelles Régionales d’Assurance, Thélem assurances needed to replace its administration system with a solution that was scalable to support business growth. The answer was to team with CSC to develop a P&C software solution based on GraphTalk A.I.A, which had a proven track record in the life sector.

Joint Development Approach
In this venture, CSC would remain the application developer and Thélem assurances would be the first user. For Thélem assurances, this meant the company could have a solution precisely adapted to its requirements, but also one which could benefit from the continued enhancements expected from a package solution.

“We were literally starting with a blank page and we were intent on creating a complete integrated administration software package,” recalled Pascal Féliot, Organisation and Information Systems Director at Thélem assurances.


A Complete Integrated System
The new solution was developed not only to administer the products, quotes, insurance contracts and their documentation, but also to handle claims, agency accounting and all the front-office functions. This move to a new system provided an opportunity to make the client the focal point of the process at Thélem assurances and to provide a complete overview of the various insurance products underwritten, which had been difficult to achieve with the old system. Furthermore, the application had to be capable of adapting to the different business sectors (motor, fire and casualty business) and to enable management of the entire distribution network. Only general accounting and reporting were not included in the project.

An Investment for the Future
Once the final functional and technical adjustments were made, the product soon started to deliver its initial benefits. For example, working with a common tool easily accessible via the Internet speeded up communications with the head office, replacing overnight business synchronization and eliminating many types of paper communications.

As deployment continues, and various batches of work go live, the responsiveness of the new system should produce additional time and efficiency benefits. It should also be more open externally and offer more transparency through automated communications and a greater marketing presence.
