EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Jan. 25 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that Guy Copeland has been named president of the Information Technology Information Sharing and Analysis Center (IT-ISAC) effective immediately. His term will run through February 2006.
Copeland, vice president of CSC’s Information Infrastructure Advisory Programs and special assistant to CSC Chief Executive Officer Van B. Honeycutt, previously served as vice president of the IT-ISAC. Copeland succeeds former president Phillip Lacombe of General Dynamics.
CSC helped found the IT-ISAC (www.it-isac.org) in January 2001 in response to Presidential Decision Directive 63 (PDD-63). PDD-63 called for increased cooperation and partnership between the federal government and the private sector to address critical cyber and physical infrastructure vulnerabilities. The IT-ISAC, as well as ISACs formed in other industries, became even more important following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and again with the formation of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The IT-ISAC is a coalition of leading IT companies that provides members with real-time and historical information about urgent alerts, security news, vulnerabilities, viruses and other threats, thus providing a comprehensive picture of current Internet threats. It provides a forum for information sharing, joint analysis and incident response coordination with the other sector ISACs and the federal government to protect critical infrastructure.
“I am pleased to accept this position and continue the excellent progress made under Phil’s leadership,” said Copeland. “The IT-ISAC has grown without government funding and has strengthened its relationships with the Department of Homeland Security and other ISACs. Phil’s commitment – as well as that of the founding IT-ISAC members – during the past year has been tremendous. I look forward to leading this organization and witnessing the exponential progress possible as our membership grows and we expand the scope of our capabilities.”
Copeland’s goals for his term include continuing progress toward real-time information sharing between the public and private sectors; strengthening relationships with the DHS, other ISACs and the ISAC Council; and establishing an IT Sector Coordinating Council to facilitate broad strategic and policy discussions among IT companies, the operationally oriented IT-ISAC and the DHS.
Copeland joined CSC in 1988 and has held increasingly progressive management positions during his career with the company. He represents Honeycutt in the working bodies of the President's National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and serves as vice chair of the Information Technology Association of America’s (ITAA) Homeland Security Committee. Copeland has served for several years as co-chair of the ITAA’s Information Security Committee and recently co-chaired the National Cyber Security Partnership’s Early Warning Task Force, an industry-led coalition of security experts assembled to improve the nation's responses to cyber vulnerabilities, threats and attacks.
He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
