CSC RECEIVES SECOND EISENHOWER AWARD FROM SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The Small Business Administration (SBA) awarded CSC's DynCorp Technical Services (DTS) the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence on May 21, 2004. DTS received the award for its commitment to utilizing small businesses as suppliers and subcontractors.

The Eisenhower Award ceremony was part of SBA EXPO Small Business Week, held in Orlando, Florida. The SBA seeks to strengthen the nation's economy by assisting and protecting the interests of small businesses.

SBA selected DTS as the winner in the "Service Industries" category, out of a pool of more than 2,500 contractors. Businesses nominated for the award must demonstrate that they provide maximum business opportunities to small and diversely owned suppliers and contractors. CSC also received an Eisenhower Award in 1999.

"The Eisenhower award recognizes our strong commitment to providing small business with opportunities to participate as subcontractors on our government programs. Our work with small businesses builds relationships that enable CSC to meet or exceed government-mandated diversity goals and contribute to our success by allowing CSC to respond to our customers. In turn, the small businesses we support help their local communities by providing jobs and acting as an economic backbone," said Cheryl Dial, DTS purchasing manager and small business liaison officer.

DTS’ accomplishment of increasing small business participation is a factor in winning this award. From 1999 to 2003, DTS increased purchase orders and subcontracts to small business from 45.8% to 74.5% of subcontracted dollars. Additionally, each subcategory of small business experienced large increases in participation.
  • Small Disadvantaged Business grew from 3.8% in 1999 to 15.4% in 2003.
  • Women-Owned Small Business grew from 8.2% in 1999 to 19.4% in 2003.
  • HUBZone Small Business participation increased from 1.4% in 2002 to 4.1% in 2003.
  • Veteran-Owned Small Business increased from 8.7% in 2002 to 19.2% in 2003.
  • Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business increased from 0.1% in 2002 to 0.3% in 2003.
DTS increases the involvement of qualified small businesses and suppliers of diverse backgrounds through CSC's Supplier Diversity Program. The program performs outreach and advocacy for small businesses and helps to educate suppliers on CSC's procurement process. Diversity managers and small business coordinators network with and support community, government and business organizations that provide assistance to small businesses. The program also provides a portal for small and diverse suppliers to furnish capability information to CSC. The portal populates a database that gives CSC employees information for use in developing new sources of services and supplies, and information for market surveys.
