Integration of CSC’s PowerSTEPP and VP/MS Software Simplifies Business ChangeEL SEGUNDO, Calif., Oct. 7 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) today announced the availability of a new version of CSC’s PowerSTEPP health plan administration system, which lets business experts change processing rules without programming. In this new version, CSC has integrated PowerSTEPP with the company’s Visual Product/Modeling System (VP/MS), a business rules engine and calculation modeling tool that more than 85 firms worldwide use to quickly and efficiently respond to business changes.
Today’s health plans seek differentiation through innovative products that feature customized premium billing, benefit mapping, enrollment, electronic transactions and claims adjudication.
“Having the ability to make system changes quickly and cost effectively to support unique customer requirements is a competitive necessity,” said Steve Sabino, executive vice president of Health Plan Solutions for CSC’s Financial Services Group. “By integrating PowerSTEPP with VP/MS, our clients can get their products to market faster by simplifying system changes that improve processing accuracy, flexibility and responsiveness to customer demands.”
PowerSTEPP enables health payers and third-party administrators to process all health plan lines of business on a single technology platform that incorporates operational workflow, medical utilization management and decision support. By integrating VP/MS with PowerSTEPP, customization and maintenance is simpler, enabling CSC clients to make changes quickly and independently of the information technology (IT) organization, resulting in rapid innovations in customer service.
VP/MS, which can also be used with other health plan core administration engines, allows business experts to define rules, logic and calculations graphically as components and models. These can be reused and modified easily for new applications. VP/MS has a built-in testing facility that allows business users to determine the impact of changes before they are introduced. Because it is self-documenting, VP/MS rule specifications and documents can assist in system training.
On Thursday, Nov. 18, CSC will hold a free Web summit and audio conference entitled “Extend Health Plan Flexibility and Responsiveness with Business Rules Engines.” To register, go to the Web site at
