SANTA CLARA, CALIF. – March 17, 2004 – Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) Portugal and Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced that Rural Seguros, a Portuguese general insurer, will use Sun technology. CSC's COGEN, the general insurance solution managing the Rural Seguros business, will now run on a Sun platform to optimize performance.

Rural Seguros is part of the Crédito Agrícola Group, a cooperative of 158 local banks serving the farming community of Portugal, delivering general insurance products tailored to agricultural clients. The contract was awarded to Sun by fellow Crédito Agrícola Group member, Rural Informática, which is responsible for Rural Seguros’ information technology (IT) systems.

Rural Seguros uses the Sun Mainframe Transaction Processing (Sun MTP) software for transaction processing, Micro Focus COBOL and an Oracle database on the Solaris(tm) Operating System, the number one enterprise-class UNIX software platform. The system architecture is a cluster based on dynamic domains, built around UltraSPARC(r) III processor-based midrange systems, including a Sun storage area network (SAN)architecture with a centralized backup system. The Sun Management Center framework, a powerful corporate infrastructure management tool, enables the management of the entire platform through an efficient centralized control.

Prior to this migration, CSC led a proof-of-concept at Lisbon’s Sun's iForce(sm)Ready Center allowing the customer to test before they invested in the new Sun platform. The proof-of-concept took approximately five weeks, including software installation, creation of production system structures, database migration and application compilation.
