CSC’S POWERSTEPP HEALTH PLAN ADMINISTRATION SOFTWARE IMPROVES PPOM’S OPERATIONS

Preferred Provider Organization Achieves New Efficiencies in Claims Repricing, Customer Service

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., March 2, 2004 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that its PowerSTEPP software has improved claims processing for PPOM, the Midwest’s largest independent preferred provider organization (PPO). Since implementing PowerSTEPP, PPOM has increased its ability to automatically match 99 percent of providers and 90 percent of members on incoming claims. As a result, PPOM has increased overall automatic claims adjudication by 25 percent, while increasing claims processing productivity by more than 30 percent.

PowerSTEPP is an integrated, enterprise-level system that provides health plan administration, claims processing, integrated workflow, medical management and decision-support capability for PPOs, health insurers, managed care organizations and healthcare administrators. PPOM is using PowerSTEPP to automate the receipt of claims from providers in its network, reprice claims according to its network arrangements, and send claims electronically to payers for rapid adjudication. With PowerSTEPP’s repricing automation, workflow and system navigation features, PPOM is able to process transactions, manage workload and respond to payer, provider and member issues more efficiently.

“By fully automating the repricing of claims, PowerSTEPP is already making us more competitive,” said Chris Crowley, chief operating officer at PPOM. “With our increased processing speed and accuracy, we can offer the best possible service to our payer and provider partners.”

“With the investment in PowerSTEPP, PPOM is strengthening relationships across the healthcare value chain,” said Steve Sabino, vice president of CSC’s Health Plan Solutions organization. “PPOM’s payer customers can now take advantage of lower medical and administrative costs to offer more attractive healthcare benefit plans and lower healthcare premiums. Healthcare providers and consumers also benefit from faster reimbursement for medical services.”

For more than 25 years, CSC has delivered applications and outsourcing services that help health plans, PPOs, third-party administrators and physician practices improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, increase speed to market, and improve customer service and care management. CSC’s applications, application service provider and business process outsourcing services support more than 300 healthcare organizations, representing 30 million covered lives and 150 million claims annually.
