CSC LICENSES ACG SOFTWARE TO EIGHT HEALTH INSURERS, ADMINISTRATORS AND CONSULTING ORGANIZATIONS

Johns Hopkins-Developed System Selected for Predictive Modeling and Other Healthcare Risk Adjustment Applications

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Feb. 9, 2004 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that during 2003 eight organizations licensed the Johns Hopkins Adjusted Clinical Groups (ACG) System, a computer-based tool that assesses the health of individuals enrolled in health plans and predicts future healthcare utilization. In the U.S., CSC is the exclusive distributor of the ACG System, which is developed and maintained by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

The organizations that licensed the ACG System represent more than two million health plan members. They include: the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, a state Medicaid agency; Patient Choice Healthcare, Inc., a company that develops tiered network programs; health plans Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska; Martin’s Point Health Care, and Greater Rochester Independent Practice Association/ViaHealth; a large Midwestern preferred provider organization (PPO); and two software integrators that focus on Medicare and Medicaid processing.

More than 175 organizations worldwide use the ACG System for provider profiling and identification of individuals with specific diseases or symptoms, predictive modeling to identify future high-cost cases, and development of innovative plan payment and risk-sharing arrangements. Used to compare how various patient populations use healthcare resources, the ACG System factors in the morbidity or "illness burden" of patient populations, enabling healthcare providers, insurers and health maintenance organizations to describe or predict a population's past or future utilization and costs.

“The ACG System’s predictive model will help us in a number of key areas, including identification and prioritization of our health plan’s top member candidates for case management intervention,” said Sally Hrdy, manager of Health Service Programs Decision Support for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. “Once case management services have been delivered, the system gives us the ability to evaluate the savings achieved.”

"These new license agreements reflect the importance of risk adjustment in helping a variety of healthcare organizations evaluate the status of their patient and member populations,” said Steve Sabino, vice president of CSC's Health Plan Solutions organization. “The ACG System is helping a growing number of institutions improve healthcare delivery and manage costs."

For more than 25 years, CSC has delivered applications and outsourcing services that help health plans, PPOs, third-party administrators and physician practices improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, increase speed-to-market and improve customer service and care management. CSC’s Health Plan Solutions application software, and application service provider and business process outsourcing services support more than 300 healthcare clients, representing 30 million covered lives and 150 million claims annually.
