Aldershot, 10 February 2004: Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE:CSC), a leading global information technology (IT) services firm, announced today it has signed a contract with First Mutual Reinsurance, the newly established Zimbabwean reinsurance company, marking its continued growth in the African reinsurance market.
The five-year contract, valued at $627,000, enhances CSC’s position with other African businesses that are implementing CSC’s reinsurance technology. To date, CSC’s reinsurance portfolio includes Southern Africa Re, Intermarket Re and Zimbabwe Re, in Zimbabwe, and Swiss Re Africa Limited and Hannover Reinsurance Africa Limited, in South Africa.
Under the new agreement, CSC will implement its SICS/nt software solution, which can simultaneously process information regarding thousands of reinsurance contracts - a capability that is essential to First Mutual Reinsurance establishing itself. SICS/nt is also compatible with legacy solutions, reducing the requirement of a total back office overhaul and enabling clients to add or integrate components as and when needed. The solution is also scalable, enabling users to implement it within local, new and small organisations, as well as multi-national reinsurance groups.
“The move to implement SICS/nt was an easy decision to make, as the business benefits were clear from the start,” said Norman Sachikonye, chief executive of First Mutual Reinsurance’s shareholding company, First Mutual Limited. “As a start up, First Mutual Reinsurance can make good use of CSC’s SICS/nt software solution to help its customers manage their business processes right from the very beginning. This way, we can gain absolute control of the business and profitability, and as we grow, so will our relationship with CSC.”
“CSC is delighted to be working with First Mutual Reinsurance and believes this contract signals the start of an exciting period of growth and development for the reinsurance industry in Zimbabwe, and in the African regions as a whole,” said Paul Bryson, divisional vice president and global head of CSC's reinsurance division. “SICS/nt is a perfect fit for First Mutual Reinsurance’s needs and we hope that CSC will become the first choice amongst local market players as this implementation achieves tangible results for First Mutual Reinsurance.”
