News Release -- February 11, 1999

CSC IMPLEMENTS BANKING SOFTWARE SOLUTION FOR LEADING PORTUGUESE BANK

El Segundo, Calif., Feb. 11 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today it has successfully completed the implementation of a new core bank processing system for Banco Mello, a Lisbon-based bank and one of the leading institutions in the Portuguese financial services market.

CSC's integrated suite of banking software, the Hogan(tm) system, now serves as the platform for Banco Mello's marketing, euro and Year 2000 initiatives. The CSC software platform also expands the bank's capacity to handle the increased volume of customers and transactions that resulted from Banco Mello's acquisition of Uniao de Bancos Portugueses and growth initiatives in retail banking.

"In parallel to the Hogan implementation, Banco Mello has successfully concluded the euro project and is working hard on Year 2000 applications," said Francisco de Lacerda, chief executive officer of Banco Mello. "Our organization is fully committed to obtaining a technological advantage in order to increase efficiency gains and to improve client service even more."

The project, which started as a phased implementation in February 1997, involved a joint team of more than 60 specialists from Banco Mello and CSC. The first interim milestone was achieved in November 1997 with the installation of the Hogan customer information system. Last March the credit card system - facilitating the launch of four new products - was implemented, while in June the loan/collateral system went live.

Twenty-one months of close partnership culminated this past November with a complex but successful major rollout. In an aggressive move, 200 branches migrated to the new system and Banco Mello's entire database of demand and term deposit accounts was converted at one time.

The project will continue through 1999 as Banco Mello and CSC undertake initiatives to expand offerings on the new Hogan platform and convert portfolios of both loans and card products.

"Banco Mello selected an integrated multi-solution approach which supports its strategic systems repositioning and efforts to enhance competitiveness," said Asger Jensby, executive vice president of CSC's Financial Services Group in Europe. "At the same time, this successful engagement reinforces our position as the leading supplier of banking solutions in Portugal."

Banco Mello is a full service banking group, focused on specialized business units served by efficient support areas. Banco Mello is one of the major Portuguese banking groups with net assets of approximately $7.6 billion. The group's strategic objectives are to be a leading player in specific high margin segments of the market; continue shareholder value enhancement (ROE 15%), and to obtain a "Blue Chip" status on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.

CSC's Financial Services Group offers a comprehensive array of business and technology solutions which support the complex requirements of the evolving global financial services industry. Customers include more than 1,000 banks, insurers, investment firms, consumer finance companies and other major financial services organizations around the globe.
