Austin, Texas, Nov. 15 -- Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it has helped Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Co., Columbia, S.C., successfully convert more than 2 million policies, with a total of 3.5 million coverages, to CSC's Distribution Support System (DSS) 15.0.
This conversion, accomplished within 12 months, makes Colonial the largest- volume DSS client.
DSS is a comprehensive agent support system that processes most facets of agency administration. It accepts data from a wide variety of policy administration systems and automatically computes and distributes commissions through channels defined by the client.
Colonial uses DSS with an IBM DB2 relational database in a graphical-user interface environment. It processes up to 2 million commission calculation transactions each night and 6 to 7 million pay transactions during the weekly pay cycle.
"Our goal was to move agency processing from two in-house systems to one," said Stan Dowd, assistant vice president, Information Systems, Colonial Life & Accident. "We needed a system that could handle high volumes. With the DB2 relational database and concurrent processing, CSC's Distribution Support System is capable of processing extremely high volumes.
"In addition, the DSS team is very technically oriented," Dowd continued. "They picked up on our business quickly and had the strengths needed to get this system implemented."
Ken Williams, president, Americas Division of CSC's Financial Services Group, said, "DSS has proven time and time again its ability to process complicated commission programs within hierarchical structures. Colonial's high-volume runs now demonstrate DSS' high-performance capabilities."
