The Huntington National Bank, a subsidiary of Ohio-based Huntington Bancshares Inc., redesigned its online banking system to offer industry-standard customer service functions such as real-time balances, funds transfer, bill payment, check reordering and images of cancelled checks.

CheckVision Drives System
CSC's CheckVision drives the system's check imaging and Web-based delivery. Canceled check images are posted to the Web site immediately after the amount is withdrawn from the customer's account and remain available for 60 days. Truly a key component of Huntington Online Banking, CheckVision is also an important part of CSC's Enterprise Transaction Architecture (ETA).

ETA is a comprehensive application suite that automates banking transaction processing. In addition to CheckVision, ETA includes Payment Processing, Fraud Detection and Archive applications. Huntington anticipates the system will improve customer loyalty and help attract new customers.

Counting the Hits
Customer response to the new site has been positive. In the first two weeks, more than 50,000 customers logged on and viewed nearly 15,000 check images. Huntington is making CheckVision available in each of its 350 banking offices, giving all customer service representatives immediate access to check images.

According to Huntington's Dan Vermeire, the application's thin-client browser interface is well suited for Internet access to the system. Also, an open application interface simplifies the connection between banking and call center applications.

"CheckVision has been one of the best-performing segments of our new site," said Vermeire, Huntington's chief technical officer. "CSC and ETA played a huge role in the enthusiastic response to and adoption of our online banking system."
