Supporting Flexible Care Delivery and Mobility
The way healthcare professionals access information about their patients is critical to delivering successful care. This is particularly so in a large and widely-spread organization like Humber NHS Foundation Trust.
With staff relying on paper-based systems, which inevitably resulted in occasional errors, Humber was looking to implement a modern EHR. As many mental health patients are cared for in the community, Humber needed a system which would give clinicians access to real-time information securely from a single source using their PCs and mobile devices. They also needed a system that helped support compliance with national Mental Health Act reporting requirements.
An EHR Specifically Designed to Meet the Needs of NHS Trusts
Working together, CSC and the team at Humber spent a year rigorously testing and refining the Lorenzo system to meet the needs of a mental health service provider. As a result, CSC has delivered a patient administration system containing clinical applications for care management, task management, internal referrals, clinical documentation and access plans.
From day one, over 600 staff across 55 sites are using the EHR to safely and securely record and access accurate and up to date clinical activity. The system “go-live” was planned to minimize disruption to patient care and to ensure the changeover was as trouble-free as possible for staff.
More Mobile Care
Easy access to patient information is crucial for out of hours care, where staff previously had limited access to clinical records, often having to ask the patients themselves. And Humber’s crisis team no longer has to trawl through disparate systems to obtain patient information, which eliminates delays.
Already Lorenzo has enabled more mobile care, allowing many patients to be seen at home, rather than having to travel to the hospital. The system is also helping to identify waiting times and care pathways, which helps the trust make improvements in the way it delivers services.
