COMPUTER SCIENCES CORPORATION TO SERVICE BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF TEXAS


EL SEGUNDO, Calif., July 27, 1998 – Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE:CSC) has contracted with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Inc. to provide information technology and services for its HMO affiliates. The contracts, with a total value of nearly $5 million, will be maintained by CSC’s Healthcare Group.

Based in Richardson, Texas, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (through its HMO affiliates) provides coverage for more than 190,000 HMO members throughout the state and also serves more than 3.5 million Medicare beneficiaries. Along with its subsidiaries, the company offers a full spectrum of individual health coverage and employee benefit programs.

CSC will license to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas its POWERMHS Managed Healthcare Information System and its Focal Point Decision Support System. CSC’s POWERMHS is a fully integrated, intelligent data processing and management information system for companies involved in managed care. Since its first installation in 1989, the POWERMHS has been selected by more than 60 healthcare organizations. The IBM AS/400 platform with its DB2 database make POWERMHS a natural choice for Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, integrated delivery systems, HMOs, PPOs and many other managed care models.

In addition to the POWERMHS and Focal Point systems, CSC will provide services to interface to the organization’s medical management and call tracking systems.

CSC Healthcare Group offers management services and technology to meet the strategic, operations, applications, information systems integration, and business process outsourcing needs of providers, payors and suppliers.
