eHealth initiatives across Europe are being called upon to provide more efficient and cost effective care. Better diagnosis and treatment decisions are driven by joining-up systems, while electronic sharing of patient data creates new alternatives to face-to-face care.

Large-scale initiatives which include health infrastructures, electronic health records (EHRs) or ePrescription, are a vital component of the overall healthcare transformation which is providing improved service delivery.

But improving care is about overcoming process and cultural challenges not just which technologies might work best. Working with Health authorities in Europe for many years, CSC understands that health reform agendas drive the most successful projects, not technology requirements. IT can successfully support the provision of business and clinical benefits, enabling better service provision, but it does not take the lead.
