Healthcare systems in many countries are faced with increased demand for care services coupled with the shortage of healthcare providers. Large-Scale eHealth initiatives that include health information exchanges and electronic health records are necessary components to healthcare transformation programs that address today's challenges to provide efficient and effective high-quality care. Specific examples are included to illustrate when issues are likely to occur in certain scenarios and discuss how they were or are being addressed.
