Summary:

The stimulus bill (sometimes referred to as ARRA - The American Recovery and Reinvestment ACT) has significant funding for healthcare IT in the HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) section of the act. Hospitals and healthcare providers can receive incentive payments from Medicare and Medicaid if they demonstrate Meaningful Use of a "certified" electronic health record (EHR). Health organizations need to assess the HITECH requirements to evaluate whether they meet the Meaningful Use definitions and develop a response plan that includes the "right product", "right implementation" and "right use" of the certified EHR in order to receive the time-limited payments.
